MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS

About me

Hello, my name is dejection, I'm a New Mexico based artist trying to bring awareness to the treatment of mental health.

All of this art that I've done has all cumulated due to depression, anxiety, and PTSD; this is a means of coping through creativity.
I designed the mask of dejection logo back when I was a senior in high school, feeling I wanted a logo that could be scaled to whatever size, be based on how I'd persistently feel, and include an art style that I loved. I knew that I wanted something that portrayed the depressive and addictive sides of my personality all while encapsulating a more profound and bigger message subliminally, so I took my time with it and spent well over a year conceptualizing and trying time after time again to draw an original and unique logo I was content with. After creating my logo I developed more focus on the development of the message behind it all and translating the meaning from images to words, and vice-versa.
From struggles with mental illness to drug addiction, I strive to help motivate those who might need help, who need guidance or to simply entertain and comfort those who don't.
Over the years I've grown an immense attachment to the community surrounding this brand and the help I've been able to give has been life-changing for me to say the least. One day I will have a team and will employ some of you, but for now, I'm stuck doing everything alone (not that I mind, it just truly gets to be a lot.)
I've been doing art for as long as I can remember, but recently started making it something more for the public as of 2018; I had my logo trademarked in around 2020 and have been doing as much as I can in between all the hurdles and obstacles life puts in my way. I've been doing everything for myself, for the most part, the only things I don't pursue alone are things I'm physically unable to do such as making an allover print umbrella due to limitations I face with creativity. Even in that case, ill still have the entire creative integrity and artistic input behind it all, though again I love doing as much as I can with my own two hands for my supporters.
I strive to make items and clothing that will outlive the purchaser and hopefully will find their way into a thrift store some fifty years from now if the world hasn't already crumbled from systemic collapse or nuclear warfare. or perhaps that's just my anxiety talking me down.
My goal is to push the advocacy of supporting one's mental health through positive means of different coping, my personal favorite being art. Anytime I feel stressed out or let down, I try to make something new that I love.
Everything is handmade unless marked otherwise, for more questions or if you ever need someone to talk to, please email me at [email protected] or message me on Instagram @dejection.inc .
